The dream of a complete nanny-state has not yet ended in parts of this country. San Francisco, as an example, is one place where the dream lives. The powers that be in one of America’s most liberal bastions want to ban circumcision for males under the age of 18. What this means is that parents will no longer get to make the decision about whether their male child is circumcised at birth. Is this really an arena where we want a city council or any other governmental organization sticking its rather long nose?
The AMA does not recommend this procedure, however, countless studies have shown that circumcised men are less likely to contract a sexually transmitted disease. It would seem to me that San Francisco of all places would support anything that cuts down on the risks associated with un-protected sex.
The Jewish community has also weighed in on the issue as it is a part of their ancient rituals. Supporters of the ban contend that adult males will still be able to have the procedure, they are just banning it on anyone under the age of 18.
Let’s face it. Our various governments around the nation have not proven an ability to run things very well. Our roads and bridges are in disrepair. Our infrastructure overall is crumbling. Our public education system is lagging behind other nations and our public finances are in shambles. With all of the issues they face, why would a governmental body take on this issue?
Answer .. it is a distraction, designed to take our focus off their ineptitude at managing our government and focus our outrage on issues such as this. Pathetic, simply pathetic and why now, more than ever, we must not pause, even for a moment, in our efforts to restore accountability in our governmental structures.
