Portland Maine State Rep. Diane Russell took off for Madison Wisconsin this week to, as she put it, “support the working people of Wisconsin.” She is in her second term in the Maine Legislature.
Most people assumed that because the Maine Legislature is not holding regular sessions during school vacation week (February 21 – 25), she would not be missing any of her responsibilities as a Legislator. Not so fast it appears. Rep. Russell serves on the Veterans and Legal Committee of the Maine Legislature and they are holding legislative hearings this week.
With her presence in Wisconsin, Rep. Russell is missing the following public hearings in her committee on February 23rd:
|HP 156, LD 179||An Act To Prohibit the Issuance of a 2nd Absentee Ballot under Certain Circumstances||Feb 23, 2011, 10:00a||Room 437, State House|
|HP 184, LD 231||An Act To Ensure the Integrity of Laws Governing Clean Elections by Amending Provisions Regarding Equipment Repurchase||Feb 23, 2011, 10:00a||Room 437, State House|
|HP 225, LD 277||An Act To Make Disputed Ballots in State Elections Public||Feb 23, 2011, 10:00a||Room 437, State House|
|HP 229, LD 285||An Act To Require That the Secretary of State Certify the Qualifications of Candidates for Legislative Office||Feb 23, 2011, 10:00a||Room 437, State House|
Also, she is missing Legislative Workshops on the following bills:
|SP 17, LD 2||An Act To Allow Farm Wineries To Charge for Wine Tastings||Feb 23, 2011, 1:00p||Room 437, State House|
|HP 61, LD 73||An Act To Establish a Uniform Deadline for Persons Qualifying as Candidates||Feb 23, 2011, 1:00p||Room 437, State House|
|SP 45, LD 103||An Act To Improve the Access of Beer and Wine Licensees to Agency Liquor Store Licenses||Feb 23, 2011, 1:00p||Room 437, State House|
|HP 125, LD 142||An Act To Improve Party Status Requirements||Feb 23, 2011, 1:00p||Room 437, State House|
|HP 173, LD 196||An Act Regarding Unenrolled Candidates under the Maine Clean Election Act||Feb 23, 2011, 1:00p||Room 437, State House|
She has abdicated her responsibilities for a personal, political stunt. Is this really the type of State Representative Maine needs during these economic times?
I guess you know my answer.
